The Practical Definition of Forgiveness

Forgiveness happens when you release a debt from within your mind. If you free all debts, you can forgive the world. Then, peace within can occur.

Short post… so a short story for you that relates:

Two monks were traveling together down a muddy road. A heavy rain was falling. Coming around the bend, they met a lovely girl in a silk kimono and sash, unable to cross the muddy path.

“Come, girl,” said the first monk. Lifting her in his arms, he carried her over the mud, set the girl down, then continued along their way.

The second monk did not speak until that night when they reached a lodging temple. Then he no longer could restrain himself. “We monks don’t go near females,” he said. “It’s dangerous. Why did you do that?”

The first monk replied, “I left the girl there.  Are you still carrying her?”

The lesson:  The first monk was at peace the rest of the afternoon until nightfall after carrying the girl across the mud.  The second month was stewing and churning within his mind.  And for what?  If he had released the girl mentally as the first monk did physically, he too, would have been at peace the rest of the afternoon.

Joy isn’t created. It exists all the time within everyone. It is simply covered up by the distractions of the mind.  Clear the mind, and you will find the Joy of God.
