Welcome to the I AM Podcast, where we answer all the questions about spirituality and inner peace that you ever wanted to ask, and where we learn the secrets of humanity and divinity through a better understanding of both. I am your host, Sean Webb.

Gaining complete control or our mind is one of the keys to being able to reveal our spiritual existence and slide into complete and lasting inner peace. But that is easier said than done, right?

I mean… each week as we learn more and more about our mind and how it creates the noise that keeps us away from Spirit, the more we see how just like an unsupervised 2 year old… it goes running around everywhere… getting into everything… especially things that can be dangerous to its own health.

So controlling our minds are is a critical part of the process of awakening. And for those of us who aren’t practiced in it, controlling our minds and putting our awareness on the processes of the mind… intentionally controlling what things we are focused on so as to shift the mind into a better space… can be a challenging task.

But today I have a nice little exercise that you can do every morning while you’re getting ready for the day, that can help adjust your mind into a better alignment with Spirit.

Every morning, as you are getting ready… it can be in the shower, or while you’re waiting for the bagel to toast, or while you’re putting on your shoes… take a moment to stop and consciously think about 5 things that you are thankful for. And say them to yourself in your mind. Some of mine would be. I am thankful for my wife Whitney and everything she brings to my life. I am thankful for my son Declan and everything he has taught me in the 19 months he’s been with us. I am thankful for the opportunity I have to do what I love in teaching spiritual peace. I am thankful for the fact the sun arose again today. I am thankful for you guys on the other end of this podcast.

Think about that for a second. After bringing to the forefront of my mind how thankful I am for those things… how much more ready am I to go give my wife a hug and a kiss that is genuine and not just a going through the motions thing?

How much more ready am I to go out and have a genuine interaction with my son as he eats breakfast?

How much easier is it going to be to go write an outline for the next podcast episode? Dramatically easier. That little pause to reflect on what I’m thankful for puts my mind into a space that is much more aligned with Spirit. It pushes my mind into a place that is much more thankful, of course… but also much more accepting… much more gracious… much more relaxed.

I don’t get up starting to think about the worries of the day. Oh no… I have this, and this, and this to do today. And if I don’t get them done or done well I’m not as good a person as I should be… because that’s how the mind thinks… it’s how your mind thinks when you’re not watching it and guiding it. Don’t let that happen.

Do the little things that help your mind slide into alignment with Spirit. Do the little exercises that help your mind allow you to have a more enjoyable day. Because the more and more we do that stuff… the easier it becomes to control our minds… which ultimately help us push our minds out of the way to eventually reveal Spirit… which is the huge game changer that everyone is looking for whether they know they’re looking for it or not.

Meditation is all about the practice of controlling our mind. Don’t forget to meditate a little bit each day… even if it’s just for 5 minutes. Longer if you’ve got it. But that action is part of the bigger process of awakening. But you don’t even need 5 minutes to list out 5 things you are thankful for at the beginning of each day. Okay… onto our homework.

[Homework]

So that’s it for this week. Don’t forget to list out five things you are thankful for tomorrow morning. It will start your day out right, and will move your mind into a place that is more aligned with Spirit. Until next week… know that I love you. Peace.
